Last
season, the IMC added another venue of great entertainment to
their schedule........
LIVE
MUSICAL THEATRE
Dwight
“Buzz”
Holmes got the idea when he
attended a performance of “Forever Plaid” at Town Hall during
the Martin Luther King weekend this year.
Sometime after the performance, Buzz met with director Lisa
Furugen and discussed the idea of the IMC presenting a major
musical at the end of their season.
Furugen
was thrilled to have the opportunity to bring more musicals to
Idyllwild as she saw a great need for that particular venue. With
Furugen finishing a 4
week run of “Annie” in the high desert, she presented the idea
to bring the cast up to Idyllwild for the IMC’s first annual
musical. All but six cast members traveled to Idyllwild to do the
show for two weekends in July. Along with 15 additional members
from the community who were cast by Furugen, IMC’s birth of an
annual
musical
was born and it proved to be the right move. Annie sold out all
four performances and the people of Idyllwild are still talking
about it. Everyone Furugen meets around town want to know what the
next show will be and when auditions will be held.
“Our
goal is not only to bring professional entertainment to the
community, but to invite anyone to come and audition or
participate behind the scenes. Once you have been involved, you
are hooked”, says Furugen. Chief Kunkle of the Idyllwild Fire Dept. was cast as
Daddy Warbucks and he played the part perfectly. “He was
Warbucks” and his shiny bald head was an icon for the show the
whole summer. His official title is now Chief “Daddy Warbucks”
Kunkle.
Our
own Buzz Holmes played the loveable Mr. Bundles and Harold Ickes
in Roosevelt's cabinet. We are very excited about this new venture
and we invite anyone to the auditions for our 2006-07 musical.
