Lisa
Furugen began teaching piano at the age of 12 and voice
at the age of 16. Lisa moved
to Hawaii in 1981 where she taught voice and piano and had nearly 150
students, both private and group. She
was also very active in the theatre community serving as director,
musical director and all other aspects of production work.
She played an intricate part of several beauty pageants and
talent competitions as talent coordinator and adjudicator. Lisa was also
on the ground level of the popular High School Talent Search, “Brown
Bags to Stardom.” Lisa is
most known for her Hawaiian performance group, “The Rising
Generation” which consisted of 50+ kids who sang and danced their way
into the hearts of schools, malls, TV,
and radio. They recorded the well remembered song “Color the
World with Love” which was dedicated to the Oklahoma bombing victims
and the Kobe, Japan earthquake victims in 1995.
Aside from directing, Lisa has played such roles as Dolly Levi in
“Hello Dolly”, Katishaw in “The Mikado”, Mrs. Potts in “Beauty
and the Beast”, and Lady Larkin in “Once Upon A Mattress.”
Lisa has directed productions such as “Sound of Music”,
“South Pacific”, “Camelot”, “Cinderella",
"Oliver”, “Finian’s Rainbow”, “1776”, “Forever
Plaid”, “Copacabana”, "Annie", and “Wizard of Oz.”
Lisa teaches voice and will be starting Black Light Theatre
here in
Idyllwild in the near future.
